The remedial class is designed for students that are either recovering from injury or suffering from a health condition or structural limitation that prevents or makes it difficult for them to join a regular yoga class. Yoga is uniquely restorative and a very effective method of alleviating pain which makes it an ideal complimentary therapy to any treatment. It restores natural movement of joints and muscles, stimulates the organic body and soothes the nerves which furnishes a broad range of ailments such as:
- joint pain
- musculoskeletal injury
- heart conditions
- digestive disorders
When yoga is practiced for its therapeutic powers the poses are practiced with support and held for longer durations so students can fully relax in the postures and reap the benefits. The initial aim is to relieve pain so student are first introduced to passive postures that release mental and physical tension. The passive poses are followed by more supported poses that actively lengthen and strengthen muscles or stimulate internal organs to function correctly. During this process students are educated to be aware of the difference between healthy stretching and pain from pulling muscles aggressively or in a structurally incorrect manner. As students gain control of their body’s more challenging poses are introduced progressing from supported to unsupported poses.
To join the remedial class students first book in for an initial consultation where a suitable program is devised. Student’s then follow this program under supervision in the remedial class held on Wednesday afternoons. As the student’s health improves the program is revised or they return to regular classes.
